Scripture: Ephesians 3: 14-21 Hebrews 12: 1-4 Sermon Title: Our God Is Able
Let us begin by looking at Hebrews 12: 1-2, Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. There is a crowd of witnesses right here with us today. There are witnessess when the Pastor asks the church to do something the members feel is impossible and they tell the Pastor with all due respect, what you are asking us to do is impossible. Paul in our scripture Ephesians 3: 14-21 shatters the belief that anything is impossible for God. Truly we can see in verse 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in him, tells us Our God is Able. Able because He is all powerful. He will deliver over and beyond all we can ask. Exceedingly, extrordinarily and unlimited. He can do all things but fail. We ask God for a cup when there is a whole ocean available to us. Don't fear to ask God anything. We had a Bishop Rev Fisher and he loved to preach on the fact that we have not because we ask not. Even when we are worn out, our God is Able. Even we want to give up, our God is Able. We must remember Paul said in, Hebrews 11 of the faith of Able, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of Moses, of Sarah of Jacob all had faith. We look to them for their examples of how faith worked it out. In this scripture we also read in verse 10 we are told of Abraham, For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. We race to that city of God but sin is the weight that causes us to lose the race. We must allow the Holy Spirit to wipe away our sins. Our sin is the greatest hinderance to successfully running this race. We must remember that Jesus bore our sins away, carried them to Golgotha where He hung on that cross and died to save us from that very sin. We read in the Bible by His stripes we are healed, healed from all our sin both then and now. We sing the song Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee, let the water and the blood from His wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure save from wrath and make me pure. Look to the Savior and know with Him you are a winner, then we will not only run the reace we will win the race. He gives us the power to win, look to God, rely on God, for with God we cannot fail for He cannot fail, god never fails, for church Our God is Able.
