Sermon Title: Keep the Light On!!
Scripture: Ephesians 5:8-16
Sermon concentrated on John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”and Matthew 5: 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. There is so much evil and darkness in the world because we are allowing the darkness to win. Lighting just one candle vanquishes the darkness. A train struck a car killing the passengers in the car. They called the watchman to testify, he was asked was he watching he answered yes, they asked did he wave the lantern to warn the car, he said yes, the watchman was cleared. As he left the courthouse he said to himself he was glad they didn't ask if the lantern was lit because the light was out. Too many people don't take advantage of the light. When some are converted they say they see a great light shining around them but as they go through life the light grows dim. To sustain the light, we must pray, study scripture and walk in the light. In 1st John we are told that God is light, as Christians we are to reflect God's light. God is good we are not but we are to do good things to reflect God's light to the world. We must 1) reflect God's righteousness 2) God is truth we must reflect the truth. God is truth but the devil is the father of lies. We must be able to tell the difference between good and evil and then do the good. The fool walks in darkness but the wise person will acknowledge he does not know whereas the fool thnks he knows everything. When we were blind we did not sin but now that we have seen the light we have no excuse for our sin. We are to expose evil and darkness and then chose to walk in the light. The Pastor closed the sermon by having each of us repeat 3 times KEEP THE LIGHT ON!!!
